Mat & Reformer
Two ways to practise the same method.
Mat Pilates
Mat Pilates is the foundation of the Pilates method. It is performed on a cushioned mat, primarily using your own body weight as resistance. It requires very little equipment, making it easy to practise almost anywhere.
Mat work develops core strength, flexibility, mobility and body awareness through controlled, precise movements, with an emphasis on breathing, spinal alignment and the connection between the mind and body.
What you need
- A Pilates or yoga mat
- Comfortable, close-fitting clothing that allows you to move freely
- Optional small equipment for some classes, such as a resistance band, Pilates ball or Pilates ring
- For online classes, a suitable space where you can move safely and comfortably

Reformer Pilates
The Reformer is a Pilates apparatus with a sliding carriage, springs, straps and a footbar. Its adjustable resistance allows for hundreds of exercises targeting the whole body.
The springs can support you when you are starting out and provide greater challenge as you progress. The moving carriage requires control, stability and precision, making the exercises challenging while remaining smooth and low impact.
Why people love it
- Adjustable resistance – suitable for different fitness levels and abilities
- Support for good form and alignment – the equipment can help you work with greater control
- Variety and progression – hundreds of exercises with options to modify and advance
- Full-body workout – develops strength, flexibility, balance and coordination
- Low-impact, joint-friendly movement – builds strength without excessive impact on the joints
Benefits of Pilates
What regular practice does for your body and mind.
Core strength
A strong, stable centre that supports your spine and the rest of your body.
Flexibility & mobility
Move more freely, through a fuller and more comfortable range of motion.
Strength & muscular endurance
Build strong, resilient muscles that keep working for longer.
Posture & alignment
Improve postural imbalances so you can stand, sit and move with better alignment.
Balance, stability & coordination
Steadier, better-coordinated movement in everyday life and in sport.
Body awareness & movement control
Understand how you move, so everyday activities like lifting, bending and walking feel more controlled.
Why Pilates works
Pilates is low-impact and focuses on the quality of each movement rather than how many you do. Instead of straining joints, it builds strength through controlled, precise work that follows your body’s natural alignment.
Regular practice builds long, strong muscles, improves balance and coordination, and the focus on breathing calms the nervous system, so it is as good for your head as your body.
Whether you’re coming back from injury, managing aches and pains, training for a sport or just want exercise you’ll stick with, Pilates adapts to you and grows with you.
